George Forster bought Silkwood in 1975 then a small cabinet shop in Papakura.
George expanded the manufacturing to include Pine shelving and TV cabinets for Sanyo.
In 1985 George visited America and noticed that computer furniture was appearing ithe shops.
Silkwood began making a range of computer desks which were sold to commercial and home users Andy Forster joined Silkwood in 1977 as a factory hand and has grown up in the company
Andy bought the company in 1995 and noticed the need for made to measure furniture .
Dealing directly with the customer proved enjoyable and rewarding for both parties.
With the purchase of computer controlled machinery it became economical to produce one off shapes and sizes,this allowed Silkwood to offer just what people wanted.
